Abrazo de Oso became aware of Gabriel when an AdO community member saw Gabriel in the video of a content creator. Gabriel, an 87 year old man from Colombia, was living in Villa 31 (a Buenos Aires slum) and was soon approaching the last day of his rent and was facing homelessness. Gabriel would sell packets of napkins in the street to survive, despite his tired knees and feet. We immediately activated to help Gabriel find a permanent home where he would be safe and rest his feet.
In a providential development, the family of Gabriel living in the USA (who did not know where he was) saw his story on social media, and got in contact with Abrazo de Oso to coordinate a solution. They arranged for other family members living in Chile to receive Gabriel and for him to live there. Abrazo de Oso visited Gabriel on several occasions in Villa 31 to establish communications, assist with planning, provide moral support and accompaniment, and ensure that Gabriel arrived safely to the bus station to make the journey to arrive home.
Abrazo de Oso conoció a Gabriel cuando un miembro de la comunidad de AdO lo vio en un video de un creador de contenido. Gabriel, un hombre colombiano de 87 años, vivía en la Villa 31 (un barrio marginal de Buenos Aires) y pronto se acercaba el último día de pago de su alquiler, por lo que corría el riesgo de quedarse sin hogar. Para sobrevivir, Gabriel vendía paquetes de pañuelitos en la calle, a pesar del cansancio en sus rodillas y pies. Inmediatamente nos pusimos en contacto con él para ayudarlo a encontrar un hogar permanente donde pudiera estar seguro y descansar.
Por una providencial coincidencia, la familia de Gabriel que vive en Estados Unidos (y que desconocía su paradero) vio su historia en redes sociales y se puso en contacto con Abrazo de Oso para coordinar una solución. Ellos se encargaron de que otros familiares que viven en Chile recibieran a Gabriel y lo alojaran allí. Abrazo de Oso visitó a Gabriel en varias ocasiones en Villa 31 para establecer comunicación, ayudarlo con la planificación, brindarle apoyo moral y acompañamiento, y asegurarse de que llegara sano y salvo a la estación de autobuses para emprender el viaje de regreso a casa.
